Realistic fiction is one of my favorite genres; but I also like a bit of sci-fi. Be more chill by Ned Vizzini is a hybrid of realistic fiction and sci-fi. It is also one of the best teen books ever written. You see, Jeremy has a problem: he ain't cool. On top of that, he ain't got a gal. Devastating... particularly if you can't have the one you want. Enter squip, the sci-fi component. A squip is a micro-supercommunter in pill form. Once one swallows it, one has a little voice giving one advice on how to be "it"... freaky? Yeah, that is why it's illegal. But, Jeremy pays for the squip in more than just one way. I love this book because it is so wild! It exposes how much we want to fit in, the crazy lengths we go to fit in, and how insane it all is... and really not worth the effort to change to be accepted as someone one is not.
